2.3. Check of level of liquids

GENERAL INFORMATION

Liquids are applied in lubrication systems, coolings, brake system, etc., being the integral working component. Because in the course of a driving there is a gradual consumption of liquid and / or pollution, even during the normal operation of the engine, the amount of liquid has to be replenished periodically. Before restoration of level of liquids of systems, pick up brand of fresh liquid (see. "The recommended lubricants and liquids").


Prevention

Before check of level of liquids install the car on an equal platform.


Oil level in the engine

Oil level marks

1. Mark of the smallest level of oil

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Remove a carpet over a spare wheel in a luggage compartment. Unscrew the holder of a spare wheel. The control probe is from the back party of the engine on the right.
2. Check oil level on the cold idle engine, or about 15 minutes later from the moment of its stop. If to make check of level of oil right after a trip, some part of oil remains in the top part of the engine and results of check will be wrong.
3. Get the control probe from a tube and wipe it a pure rag or a paper napkin. Insert the pure probe back into a tube and again get. Check level on an oil film. Level of oil has to is between risks of L and F control probes, otherwise add enough oil, having brought level to mark F (see rice. Oil level marks).
4. For finishing level from mark L to mark F it is necessary to add about 1,0 l of oil. Do not allow that level was below mark L since it will lead to an engine exit out of operation. If the level of oil is more norm (higher than mark F), it will lead to oiling of candles, oil leak, or to failure of an epiploon.
5. To add oil remove a stopper of a maslozalivny mouth on a cover of the block of cylinders. Use a funnel not to spill oil. After a dolivka of oil wrap a stopper of a maslozalivny mouth by hand. Start the engine and attentively track emergence of any leaks through an oil filter or a drain stopper of the oil pallet.
6. Stop the engine, wait that oil flew down in the pallet from the top part of the block and a head of cylinders, then again check oil level. The turned stopper of a jellied mouth of an oil filter settles down on a cover of a head of cylinders. Before turning off a stopper be convinced of purity of an adjacent surface to avoid hit of dirt in the engine.
7. Check of level of oil – an important preventive measure of operations of maintenance. If oil level constantly goes down, are the reason an oil leak through the damaged epiploon, the weakened connections, or through piston rings or the directing plugs of valves. If oil gets a dairy shade, or in oil water drops are observed, tightness of laying of a head of cylinders is broken. All this indicates the need of immediate check of the engine. It is necessary to check a condition of oil also regularly. Every time during check of level of oil before wiping the probe, clamp the probe two fingers and carry out on it up. If it is visible that between fingers and the probe the remains of dirt or small metal particles get stuck, oil needs to be replaced see subsection 2.5.2).

Cooling liquid

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. All cars considered in this manual have the closed tight cooling system of an elevated pressure. The broad tank of white color established in the left forward corner of a motor compartment is connected by a hose to the basis of a stopper of a jellied mouth of a radiator.
2. In process of heating of cooling liquid in operating time of the engine there is a replacement of liquid through a tight stopper of a jellied mouth of a radiator and a connecting hose in a broad tank. In process of cooling of the engine cooling liquid flows down back in the cooling system, supporting necessary level. The broad tank is near the battery.
3. Level of cooling liquid has to be checked regularly. Level has to be between marks in Full tank (Full) and Low (Nizhny Novgorod). Depending on engine temperature level will change. On the cold engine, the level of cooling liquid has to be a little higher than Low mark. On the heated-up engine level has to coincide with Full mark, or be near this mark. If the provision of level does not correspond specified, after cooling of liquid in a tank remove a stopper and add cooling liquid to Full mark. It is necessary to add only liquid on the basis of ethylene glycol and water, it is forbidden to add anticorrosive additives independently. If restoration of level of liquid requires absolutely small amount, it is possible to add water. However, frequent addition of water will be led to dilution of initial mix of antifreeze and the water made in the recommended proportion. To support a proper correlation of antifreeze and water, it is recommended to add mix of the necessary structure. The recommended composition of liquid in the cooling system is specified in the maintenance instruction of the car.
4. If later a short period after a dolivaniye the level of liquid goes down, violation of tightness of system is possible. Check a radiator, hoses, a stopper of a jellied mouth, an inhaling of drain traffic jams and the water pump. If strong indications of a leak it is not revealed, check a radiator stopper, having handed over it in a workshop of car service.
5. If it is necessary to open a cover of a jellied mouth of a radiator, wait for full cooling of system, then wrap up a stopper a thick layer of rags and turn it to the first emphasis. At emergence of steam wait so far liquid will cool down completely, then remove a stopper.
6. When checking level of liquid always watch its state. It has to be rather transparent. If liquid got brown color, or color of a rust, it should be replaced, previously having washed out the cooling system. Anticorrosive properties are exhausted over time though liquid and can keep satisfactory appearance. Therefore liquid needs to be replaced through certain periods.
7. Do not allow hit of antifreeze on skin or on the painted car surfaces. In case of hit immediately wash out their large amount of water.

Windshield washer liquid

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Liquid of a washer of a windshield contains in a plastic tank which settles down in on the right side motor compartment. In a temperate climate the tank of windscreen washer can be up to the top filled in with clear water, however at long storage it has to be filled no more than on two thirds to allow water to extend when freezing.
2. If the car is operated in a frigid climate, in a tank of windscreen washer it is necessary to fill in solution of special liquid with the lowered freezing point. Such liquid is available on sale either for the dealer, or in autoshops. Liquid mixes up with water, in the proportion specified by the manufacturer on container. It is forbidden to fill a windscreen washer tank with antifreeze from the cooling system. It will lead to damage of coloring of the car.

Battery electrolyte

PERFORMANCE ORDER
For check of level of electrolyte (except the cars completed with unattended batteries) turn off a stopper. Level has to be between the top and lower control marks. If level is near the lower mark, add the distilled water. Establish and reliably tighten a stopper.

Liquid of a hydraulic actuator of brakes and coupling

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. The main cylinder of brakes is mounted on the vacuum amplifier in a motor compartment. In the main cylinder of coupling provided on cars from a manual transmission is near the main cylinder of brakes.
2. Liquid level in a nutritious tank of the main brake cylinder, or in a coupling cylinder tank, is determined by marks of Min and Max. Liquid level in both tanks has to be near Max mark.
3. If liquid level in both tanks is lower normal, remove traffic jams from tanks, previously having wiped a surface of tanks pure rags in order to avoid pollution of a hydraulic actuator of brakes or coupling.
4. In tanks of the main cylinder of brakes and coupling add only special liquid (the brand of liquid is specified at the beginning of this chapter in the section "Recommended Lubricants and Liquids", or in the maintenance instruction of your car). Mixing of liquids of various types is not allowed as can put system out of action. Fill a nutritious tank of a hydraulic actuator of brakes only to a dashed line, the correct level will be established after you put a stopper into place.
5. After removal of a stopper of a tank, check existence of pollution in a tank. In the presence of a deposit, particles of dirt or drops of water liquid has to be merged and replaced new (the liquid replacement procedure in a hydraulic actuator of coupling and brakes is described in subsection 8.2.5 and subsection 9.12).
6. After restoration of level of liquid in tanks be convinced of reliability of fastening of traffic jams to avoid leak of liquid and (or) pressure drop in system.
7. Level of brake fluid will go down in process of natural wear of brake shoes. Need of a frequent dolivka of liquid in a tank of the main cylinder of brakes is a leak sign in brake system which reason should be found and eliminated immediately. Check all connections and a condition of tubes and hoses of a brake contour, and also wheel cylinders and the vacuum amplifier (see subsection 2.7).
8. If when checking level of liquid in a tank of the main brake cylinder absence (or nearly total absence) liquids is revealed, immediate check of brake system is required (see subsection 9.12).
